Description
An antique French brooch from the Art Nouveau period featuring a griffin and chimera type beast. The griffin holds a small diamond in its beak in a white metal mount. The brooch is marked FIX to the reverse, this is a type of heavy gold covering rather like old Sheffield plate. The gold covering is 18 carat and this is likely over brass. Items were marked FIX otherwise they would easily be mistaken for solid gold. The broch was made by Savard and is marked to the 'c' hook, you will need a good loupe to make it out, there is further detail below the Savard mark, but it is illegible. It has a standard pin and c clasp.

Condition: Good for period. Hinge and pin working fine. Wear is very restrained. Some tiny spots of verdigris in places where the base metal edges are exposed.
