Description

A very decorative Victorian engraved locket and book chain.  The locket is interesting in having an Aesthetic style engraved windmill scene with bulrushes and water.  To the other side it has a more traditional English acanthus design.  Inside the locket it has a zig-zag scratch mark which was used for assaying silver in the 19th century suggesting it may have been tested in continental Europe rather than the UK.  The chain features decorative links with flat sections and oval sections.  There are two large spring rings for connecting the chain to the locket.  Neither the chain or locket are marked, however both test as sterling silver.

  • Locket size : 45mm x 36mm excluding bale
  • Chain length : 40cm 
  • Chain width : 14mm (flat wide links)
  • Material : Sterling silver
  • Weight: 32.13 grams (before packing)

 

Condition: Good for period with minor wear as expect.  Some very slight deformations to chain in places.  Locket without glazed panels or retention rings.
