Description

The ring is designed in the form of a buckle - a motif that enjoyed a sustained run in British gold jewellery from the Victorian period through to the late 20th century, and one that translates well into a ring head. Here the buckle bar carries four round faceted blue topaz in a line, their colour sitting cleanly against the yellow gold. The shoulders and upper surface of the shank are worked in an illusion pavé design, with diamonds set within the pattern - a technique that uses the surrounding metalwork to amplify the apparent size of each stone.

Inside the band it carries a Sheffield assay office hallmark with the international gold mark (a common feature on British gold jewellery from the late 1970s onward) and the maker's initials BB. Dating is c.1980s to 1990s.
