Description

An Art Deco period sterling silver dish with scalloped rim with hand planished finish.  The base is set with Matthew Bolton's design of a 'Cartwheel' copper penny.  The bowl is hallmarked to the exterior.  It has a Birmingham hallmark with date letter for 1934.  The makers mark is likely for Albert Edward Jones.

The coin was first struck in 1797 and was carried on for a few years without the date being altered.  Although set in silver the coin appears to be in much better condition than most you see, it has been kept polished with the dish.  The underside has some toning now.   Overall a very interesting and practical little dish.
