Description
A beautiful late 19th century gold bar brooch. It is set with a large round facet cut rose de France amethyst gemstone approx. 9.5 carats. Flanking the amethyst are six seed pearls in petal mounts (three on each side). Given the period these are almost certainly natural pearls. Towards the end of the bar a each side is a double rope twist followed by a flower terminal. To the reverse is standard hinge and pin arrangement, typical of the period and a small loop for attaching a safety chain. There are no marks, however it tests between 10 and 12 carat gold. The pin does not appear to be gold.
It is a beautiful example and in the Belle Epoque style.
