Antique Swiss Hand Painted Portrait Miniature of Girl in Fine Carved Wood Frame (Code 0432)
A lovely early 20th portrait miniature of a girl. The painting (on porcelain) is in the Bohemian style and there is a retailers sticker to the reverse of the frame for Maurice Bloch A L'Industrie Suisse, Geneve - a noted high class retailer of art and bijouterie. The portrait is not signed, however removing the back of the frame reveals further stickers, with one for Pierres Des Aples Chr Goerg Geneve, 33 Rue du Rhone, perhaps the framer. There is another paper sticker, possibly with the customers details and some pencil text which I can't make out. There is also an impressed clay mark E15.
The potrait is very well executed with a subtlety of tone which is lost somewhat under the studio lighting for the pictures here. The frame is also quite remarkably detailed being carved with naturalistic forms. A very nice piece.
The plaque is in very good order with no obvious scratches or rubbing. Minor losses to the frame with some of the tendrils missing. One of the tiny screws holding the back in place appears to be missing, however this is not affecting the function at all.
