Antique Colonial Indian Multan / Sindh Pottery Storage Jar in Polychrome Glaze (Code 2516)
A 19th century Indian colonial pre partition pottery covered jar, Multan or Sindh region. Lovely rustic provincial appeal with traditional motifs and colours inspired by original Persian forms. It was probably intended for storage of food originally. Soft earthenware body and fired in an uncontrolled kiln giving the distinct glaze blur effect in places. Slight turquoise hue to the glaze.
Glaze losses and flaws. Firing faults. Chips to rim of lid and base, loss to knop on lid. Crazing internally. All typical of such utility pieces from the period.
