Description
An interesting necklace using a French 10 Centimes coin with date stamp for 1874. Coin catalogues suggests this coin was made in bronze, however this coin tests as sterling silver so is possibly a special token rather than a circulating coin of the period. It comes on a good quality sterling silver chain with spring ring clasp. The chain is marked for sterling silver with a hallmark from the Sheffield assay office and date letter for 1984.
The coin has a suspension ring soldered to the top. The coin is also very rubbed suggesting it has been well loved over the years perhaps as a touch piece (lucky touch token). The coin is set so that heads shows the correct orientation in use, the 'tails' side is upside down.
