Description

A solid silver George III period 'old English' pattern table spoon. It has the London hallmark for 1787 with the King's head stamp. To the top of the handle it has the initials 'I S' engraved. Unusually the King's head is somewhat over-struck with the makers mark. The maker is Hester Bateman who took over her husbands business upon his death in 1760 and went on to become a very successful and renowned silversmith, most unusual for a women during this period.

Condition

Normal period wear, slight flat spot in handle, perhaps intentional as the thumb rests nicely in this spot.
