Antique Georgian Regency Cast Brass Pastille Incense Burner with Pine Cone Knop (Code 2672)
A very attractive late Regency or William IV period pastille burner. It is made from cast brass and has a floral design around the foot and rim, and a pine cone finial to the lid. The lid is pierced to allow the incense to diffuse and there are vents in the base to draw air through. There is a cast iron block to the base to increase the weight and stability to ensure it is not easily knocked over.
Just as today these were used for burning sweet smelling incense which came in a form called pastilles at the time. Today you could also use it for the intended purpose or enjoy as a decorative object or desk ornament.
Good for period, typical minor dents and deformations to the lid rim and base. Dark patina in the crevices. See images for overall look.
