Antique Georgian Regency Rosewood & Box Wood Strung Work or Table Box c1825 (Code 2138)
A handsome early 19th century Regency period table box or work box c1825. It is larger than the average for the time and is in rosewood with boxwood stringing. It has four gilt brass feet and egg and dart moulding around the top panel. The interior features a lift out divided tray and the space below is left open. The size and style would make for a very fine desk box with multiple uses. The hinges and lock are brass and the interior is lined with red and black textured paper.
Lovely grain and nice surface finish with the top particularly glossy and eye catching. A great statement piece for a desk.
A good example. Some wear as expected to the surface with minor scratches but less than usual for age. A couple of patches of wear to the French polish on the lid. Surface veneer shrinkage splits to lower front panel and upper back panel as typical for age and not structural. Lock does not throw, although key turns. Interior has been relined but not recently done.
