Antique Late Georgian Gold & Natural Coral Brooch - Oval Open Ring Design - A674

Summary

A small antique late Georgian gold brooch with ten coral cabochons arranged in an oval open ring, each held in a solid backed mount with small claw settings.

Description

The ten hand cut coral cabochons vary naturally in shade, giving each element of the oval its own colour. Their individual solid backed mounts are joined into an open ring measuring approximately 22.7mm x 20.5mm.

The coral appears to be Italian precious red coral. The reverse is unmarked, and the gold mount tests as 9ct. The pin is base metal, with a simple pin fastening to the reverse.

Condition

Some dents to the back of one mount. One coral cabochon has fracturing which appears stable and requires magnification to see clearly. There is a small hairline in the gold backing of one mount which does not extend all the way through the sides. Natural colour variation is present among the coral cabochons.
