Description

A rare Gustave Asch pottery vase in sea green faience glaze.  It is decorated with Berries and leaves in gilt with red details.  The vase body is of slender form and quite typical of the production period c1900.  The glaze is thickly applied and has some sag lines in places from firing, it also has a mottled effect and looks not unlike a shagreen texture.  It is marked to the base with the impressed axe pictorial mark and there is also a hand painted Sevres style mark.

Gustave Asch items are increasingly harder to acquire and this particular glaze colour is now rarely seen on the mark.

Condition

Very minor wear.  A few glaze pops from firing and some run lines in the glaze from thick application.  Some crazing.
