Antique Indian Lucknow Silver Offering Bowl with Hindu Deities c1890 (Code 2245)
Description
A late 19th century silver bowl from the Lucknow region of India. It is of lobed design with crimps at the rim. The main design is of Hindu deities with scrolling leaf designs, this motif perhaps more commonly associated with the Madras region, but also produced elsewhere. The base has a detailed foliate design with some further chased detail. There are no makers marks (although the base patterns were often specific to an artisan. It tests as a high grade of silver.
Condition
Good for period, minor wear as expected, some minor knocks to the base. Some indents/pits around the rim which appear to be largely from imperfections in the sheet of silver it was worked from.
