Description

A most interesting James Macintyre lidded jar dating to the closing years of the 19th century. It combines their agate ware in a khaki grey marbled glaze with the aurelian designs.  The lid has four holes so it is likely intended for pot pourri. It has two handles and the decorative panels are typical of the aurelian ware of the period.

To the underside it has the Macintyre Burslem mark and the registered design number 308932 which was registered in 1897.  Particularly unusual to find the agate ware combined with aurelian.  A real treat for the collector.

Condition

Generally very good for period.  Some minor gilt wear, mostly obviously around the rim as you would expect. A small patch of brown glaze missed to the foot rim from production. A minor firing crack to the underside of one handle from kiln shrinkage.
