Antique Japanese Cloisonne Enamel Vase with Dragons and Ho-ho Birds (Code 2798)
An early 20th century Japanese cloisonne vase of bottle shape. It has a deep blue/green ground with coloured flecks. Around the body are shield shaped panels with dragons and ho-ho birds with further decorative designs above and between. The dragon panels have aventurine glitter in the orange enamel
The vase is of good size and large enough to make a feature display. It is unmarked which is usual for Japanese cloisonne of this period. The body appears to be brass and there is yellow thick enamel inside the neck.
Good for period, slight nicks and the odd scrape but nothing substantial. One oval shape impact mark, see image 3 just off the lower right of the dragon panel, this can be felt and is visible by the lighter tone. Some crazing of the yellow enamel internally, the missing areas appear to be from sloppy application during manufacture.
