An antique Moorcroft tazza in the rare Spanish pattern, with a green flambé ground deepening to cobalt blue at the centre, raised on a silver-plated EPNS stand.

Description

The Spanish pattern is among the less commonly encountered of Moorcroft's early designs, and this tazza - a shallow footed dish form - presents it well. The ground moves from a rich green flambé at the rim through to a deeper cobalt blue towards the centre, the colour transition characteristic of the reduction-fired glazes Moorcroft was experimenting with in this period.

The Moorcroft signature is present to the underside, partially obscured by the tazza mount - the mount unscrews to reveal it in full. The stand is stamped EPNS to the underside. The silver plating has worn considerably to the upper sections of the stand, and there is a small indent to the foot rim of the metal.

Condition

The ceramic has crazing, more pronounced to the underside. No restoration. The EPNS stand shows significant wear to the silver plating on the upper sections, and a small indent to the foot rim.
