Antique Regency/Victorian Tea Caddy with Lions Paw Feet & Glass Mixing Bowl (2896)
A particularly good late Regency or early Victorian tea caddy in rosewood. It is of sarcophagus form with inswept sides and scalloped lid. It has large feature lions paw feet and mask head handles in brass and a mother of pearl tear drop escutcheon. Nice figuring to the wood with the grain ageing beautifully over the years.
Opening the lid reveals an original velour lining inside the lid and a period cut glass mixing bowl. The interior caddies are shaped and have hinged lids.
Wear to the exterior is lower than average with some indent lines, minor marks etc. There are some slight shrinkage splits in the surface. There are some replacement screws to the lions paw feet. Interior velour is of course aged and a bit worn. Silvered lining of the caddies largely worn as expected. Lock does not work. It does not quite stand square on the four feet. Lid slight faded from light exposure but not looking out of place. All typical of period, overall it is a very nice example.
