Antique Royal Doulton for Tiffany Joseph Hancock Hand Painted Ptarmigan Plate (Code 1672)
This fine cabinet plate was made by Royal Doulton and painted by Joseph Hancock. Hancock was noted as one of the finest painters at Doulton and worked on prestigious pieces and produced some amazing cattle and rural scenes on their Luscian Ware. This plate was made for Tiffany and it dates to the very first years of the 20th century. This plate style was made in two forms, the standard version with flat gilding and this luxury style with raised gilt harebells which look like little gems and the embossed gilt bands and gilded foot rim. It is painted with Ptarmigan in a Scottish landscape, a favourite subject for Hancock and it is signed by the artist to the lower left. The reverse has the Doulton and Tiffany marks and reference details. A beautiful piece of artistry.
Very good order, slight wear to gilt at the rim and a few light scratches.
