Royal Doulton Titanian Ware Vase | Hand Painted Seagulls by Harry Allen | Antique c1925 - (3319)
A rare and exceptionally fine Royal Doulton Titanian ware vase, hand painted by the accomplished Doulton artist Harry Allen. Produced during the Art Deco period (c.1920-1929), this elegant baluster-form vase is glazed in the technique's characteristic deep, moody blues - a finish prized for its atmospheric depth and the beautiful, unpredictable effects in the kiln.
The decoration depicts two gulls soaring above a foaming wave crest, rendered with confident, painterly style. The vase is signed H. Allen towards the base. Doulton black printed mark to the base, with hand-scripted number 1029 and incised mark M6. Titanian ware of this quality and subject matter is increasingly difficult to source.
Condition
Very fine condition for period. Minimal signs of wear or production flaws. The high-gloss Titanian glaze produces some lighting reflections in photography, particularly around the shoulder and baluster - the piece presents beautifully in hand.
