Royal Worcester Fruit Cabinet Plate - Richard Seabright - Cobalt Blue & Pink - 1920 - 3291

Summary

A Royal Worcester china cabinet plate with a central fruit painting of apples, black cherries and blossom, framed by a cobalt blue and pale pink border. Raised and hand painted gilt decoration follows the shaped rim and surrounds the circular scene.

Description

Warm yellow and red apples sit beside dark fruit and pale blossom against a mossy green ground. The softly shaded painting contrasts with the precision of the border, where rich cobalt blue gives way to pale pink reserves filled with fine gilt harebell swags and scrolling detail.

There is plenty to see beyond the fruit. Raised gilt beads, small loops and fan shaped flourishes encircle the central well, while larger scrolls follow the gently shaped edge. The pink reserves soften the deep blue, with the gilding linking the two.

The central scene is by Richard Seabright, one of Royal Worcester's finest fruit painters, and carries his signature to the left of the blossom. On the reverse is the Royal Worcester mark in pink, with the date code for 1920. The plate measures 22.8cm across.

Condition

Generally very good antique condition. There are some very slight marks to the rim gilding and one small scratch in the central painted reserve, to the right of the rightmost cherry.
