Antique Ruby Glass Overlay & Guilloche Enamel Scent Bottle / Smelling Salt Phial (3001)
A very attractive scent or smelling salts bottle dating around 1900 and probably Bohemian in origin. It is of torpedo shape and has a clear glass body overlayed in ruby glass then cut back to the pattern you can see. The cap is white metal with guilloche enamel in red and has a suspension loop to allow use as a pendant or on a chatelaine. There is no internal stopper and the opening is relatively wide, so this example may have been intended for smelling salts rather than perfume and would be used rather like a vinaigrette.
Very good for period, enamel has survived remarkably well. Minor wear to the body, slightly rough around the opening inside. Cap screws on very well.
