Description
A wonderful very late Victorian cased scent bottle. It has a repousse case with a gilt interior and there are two vacant cartouches. The case hinges and has a cap with friction clasp. Being cased it was likely intended as a travelling item and can also have been used for smelling salts or lavender water. The scent bottle is original and in green glass with stopper. The scent bottle has been ground and polished to give it flat sides and base.
The silver case is hallmarked and very tricky to spot as it is stamped in the decoration. The hallmark is for Synyer & Beddoes, a well known maker from the Birmingham jewellery quarter. The assay mark is for Birmingham and the date letter is for 1899. There is also a repeat mark inside the cap.
A great looking and scarce item, lovely quality.
Condition
As expected some minor period wear. There are a couple of flat spots to the cap. Bottle in very good order with no chips or cracks.
