Antique South East Asian Carved Coconut Cup On Silver Pedestal Base c1800 (Code 1780)
A late 18th or early 19th century carved coconut cup mounted on a silver foot. It is South-East Asian in origin, possibly Burmese region and features arched panels of characters in traditional dress. Just below the rim there is a band of flowers and the overall quality of carving is high for this type of item. The baluster knopped foot is unmarked but tests as high purity silver and is probably Sterling grade. Rich deep brown colour to the coconut, a nice example.
Nut very good for period, minor wear, slight nicks at the rim. Silver base at stem to foot connection with some (re-straightened) deformations - the final image shows this most clearly as the silver is not so highly polished there.
