Antique Sterling Silver Albert Watch Chain & Fob - Hallmarked 1899 - C2898
Summary
An antique sterling silver Albert watch chain, T-bar hallmarked 1899, with a later 1930 reward of merit fob bearing engraving and a maker's mark attributed to Vaughton & Sons of Birmingham.
Description
The chain is composed of equal-sized links, each individually stamped with the lion passant for sterling silver, with some rubbing to the stamps consistent with age and use. The T-bar is hallmarked for 1899. At the opposite end is a traditional watch hook in working order. A short chain extension sits adjacent to the fob, likely intended for a watch key winder.
The fob is hallmarked for 1930 and carries a maker's mark probably for Vaughton & Sons of Birmingham. To the front it is declared a reward of merit, with the centre cartouche engraved 'Every Mark'. To the reverse, the engraving reads 'Friday Church Bridge', 'S.S' and 'G Loughton 1931' - a small record of a specific moment, now worn as part of the chain.
Condition
Watch hook working fine. Normal period wear throughout. Some rubbing to the lion stamps on the chain links. See images for overall presentation.
