Description

An antique sterling silver unusual hinged vesta case.  It has a London hallmark with date letter for 1919 and you can see the Art Deco influence in the design and decoration.  It is hallmarked in three places and has a registered design number.  It also has a Philip Morris & Co. mark who were of course a famous tobacco company.  The sponsers mark is not very clear. 
 
The vesta is of folding design, you hinge the small section back slightly which releases the lid and allows it to fold open completely. The open section with the hallmark and registered design number is textured so presumably this was the striking area. 
 
 

Condition

Some period wear with surface scratches and scuffs.  A small knock to one top corner and some very shallow indents to the reverse. Hinge mechanism working fine and overall a very interesting piece.
