Antique Sterling Silver Ring / Jewel Box with Inlaid Lid & Fabric Lined Interior (Code 2302)
Description
A lovely Art Deco period silver box with Birmingham hallmark for 1922. The style carries over from the Edwardian period, and boxes like these were usually used for storing rings and fine jewellery. It has four legs with scrolled feet and the rim is in the Chippendale style. The hinged lid has a friction close and the interior is lined in green fabric. The lid is inset with a decorative wreath in silver.
The main hallmark is on the underside rim, and there is a repeat mark to the lid rim. The makers mark is for Percy J Finch of Birmingham. This box is larger than typical for these pieces and is a very nice example.
Condition
Good for period, minor wear. Some wear and surface damage to the card base liner to the underside. Some ageing of the fabric interior, but it is much better than usual for this kind of item.
