Summary

An antique Victorian sterling silver graduated Albert watch chain with T-bar and large shield fob, the chain links each struck with the lion passant, the chain hallmarked 1875 and 1897 for the fob.

Description

A substantial and well weighted Albert chain in sterling silver, with graduated links - the central links measuring approximately 8.9mm across - giving the chain a pleasing taper from centre to ends. Each link carries the lion passant mark for sterling silver.

At one end, a T-bar with a partial hallmark for 1875; the maker's mark is present but rubbed, possibly reading JR. At the other, a large fob with a shield to one face and a roundel to the other, both blank and available for engraving. The fob carries a full hallmark for 1897 with maker's mark WL.

Condition

Normal period wear throughout, as expected for age. The hallmark to the T-bar is somewhat worn but legible.
