Antique Victorian Large Wooden Writing Slope with Inkwells & Hidden Drawers (Code 2663)
A large 19th century Victorian period writing slope. It is in mahogany and has a shield cartouche to the top with the initials ARD and dated Oct 89 (1889). It is substantially constructed and opens to reveal a blue velvet writing surface. Under the main compartment is a hidden panel with spring and slide action that opens to reveal two drawers. There is a pen tray with removable dished holder and a stamp section for which the cover also slides off to provide more storage beneath. There are two inkwells with brass lids marked 'Patent London'. There is a brass lock, but I have been unable to get a key to fit, so it may well not be functional.
Surprisingly good for period and of quality construction. Usual period wear, scratches and light indents. Hinges good. Lock suspected as non functional.
