Antique Victorian Nailsea Glass Double Gimmel Flask with White Pull Up Loops (Code 2747)
An antique Nailsea Victorian period double glass (gimmel) flask. It is in clear and white and has feathered pull up loop decoration. The flasks were joined when still slightly molten and then the neck was sheared apart and you can still see and feel the rough edge where this was done.
For added durability a clear bit of glass was been added to join the bases, this has a rough snapped pontil scar as can be seen in the image. There are also decorative glass bands down the edges which have been pincered, these also add grip along with being for show. These flasks were intended for use and were stoppered with corks, the date of production is around 1860. This is a good large example of surprising heft, probably best left in a saddle bag rather than be carried all day!
Very good for period, some surface scratches and wear as you would expect. A nice and very tactile example.
