Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Locket with Fancy Link Chain - Birmingham 1878 - C2944

Summary

An antique Victorian sterling silver locket with chased acanthus foliage, a matching decorated bale and a 45cm fancy link chain. The back is plain polished silver, while the opening interior has one retention ring and a clear acrylic cover.

Description

Chased acanthus foliage decorates the front of this Victorian silver locket and continues onto the bale. The plain polished reverse provides a contrast to the ornamented front. The locket opens with a friction catch and  inside the panels have a decorative paper lining and the right panel retains a ring and clear acrylic cover.

The Birmingham hallmark is struck to the back of the locket and dates it to 1878. The maker’s mark reads E.U.

The accompanying fancy link chain has distinctive spool shaped links and an antique type spring ring fastening stamped Sterling. 

Condition

Some small indentations to the reverse of the locket. The chain and spring ring are in good condition. One internal retaining ring and one clear acrylic cover are present, both panels have a paper lining.
