Antique/Vintage Large Ottoman Copper Hanging Concertina Incense Burner/Lantern (Code 2756)

Description

A large and heavy antique or vintage copper hanging incense burner.  This style is associated with Turkey and the Ottoman region.  It is hand made from heavy gauge copper and far heftier than you would expect.  It is of concertina form with the base sitting inside the lid when not hanging.  Much smaller, lighter versions exist with paper concertinas as lanterns, but this is far too heavy to be held together by paper, and has three chains.  There is a circular retainer in the center, and it will need a small dish inside if you wish to burn incense in it.  There is still a residual smell of incense even though I have washed it a few times.

It is a great looking piece, very evocative of the region and the collapsible form aids storage when not in use.  The brass hook holding it up is not included in the sale.

Condition

Hand made artisan work, so not factory perfect.  Some knocks and indents.  See images for general appearance.  Some of the internal hanging chain links are either replaced, or have been extended to allow it to hang in a more open position you see in the images..
