Antique Whitby Jet Mourning Brooch With Silver Coin & Secret Christian Token (B2241)

Description
An interesting early 20th century Whitby jet mourning brooch. It is of diamond shape and has had the centre carved out and is set with a George V silver threepence coin. The back has been set with resin to encapsulate the pin fixing.
Most interesting is that the coin is friction set and can be carefully removed revealing a faith, hope and charity Christian token in gilt metal. This was clearly meant to be kept hidden but sadly we will never know the true reason for it. The coin dates to 1920, the final year of mintage of this coin and it is sterling silver.
