Description

An early 20th century Art Deco period wooden small cigar case.  It appears to be in burr walnut with a flush cut hinge.  The size would have suited the slim cigars which were popular at the time.  The exterior features an inset panel of a courting couple with a newspaper and when you open up the lid it reveals the opposite view with an erotic pose.  Note the colour difference between the interior and exterior panels caused by fading over the years.    We have not found any makers details and the case would date to the 1920's.  We regularly find silver cases of an erotic nature but this is the first wooden one we have ever seen. 
 
A great novelty collectors item. 
 
 

Condition

Exterior faded due to light over the decades.  Some scratches including some to the panel but nothing which spoils it.  Hinge mechanism working well and closes nicely.  Natural flaws in the wood as expected for burr walnut.
