Art Deco Devonshire Regiment Silver & Enamel Match Book Vesta Case with Insignia (Code 1244)
Description
A silver match or vesta case for books of matches having engine turned detail. It is mounted with the insignia for the Devonshire Regiment, one of the historic British infantry regiments with it's history dating back to 1685. It has blue and red enamel to enhance the badge. The case is hinged lengthways and there is a fitment to the inside to hold match books. Books of matches were popular through the early and mid 20th century and often carried advertising being given away by hotels etc. The case is hallmarked silver for London 1939 and the makers mark is for William Bruford & Son Ltd.
Condition
Minor knocks, normal age related scratches and wear, hinge and catch fine.
