George III Sterling Silver Vinaigrette Novelty Satchel Form - Georgian Antique (Code 2393)
An early 19th century Georgian period silver vinaigrette. It is of novelty form in the shape of a satchel or case with the tang forming the lifting lip. Inside it has a finely pierced and chased grill which is gilded. The inner lid and base are also gilded. The hallmark is for Birmingham 1817 making this item a George III example. The makers mark is too indistinct to make out.
Generally very good for period, gilding is in good order, hinge is fine and it closes nicely.
