Description

A vintage Goebel ceramic bird figure depicting a Great Tit, also known as a titmouse, modelled in flight above a branch with leaves.

The bird is naturalistically decorated with yellow, black, white and green plumage beneath a gloss glaze. The raised wings and downward tilted head give the figure a sense of movement, with the branch base providing.

The underside bears blue Goebel factory marks and impressed marks including 1965. The figure also has a transparent factory label, now showing some age-related wear.

Goebel produced a wide range of bird studies during the twentieth century, often based on European species. The Great Tit is one of the more familiar garden and woodland birds, and the flight pose makes this a more animated example than the static perched forms.

Excellent vintage condition overall.

The figure itself is in very good order with no damage noted. The transparent label remains present but displays wear, and losses.
