Description

A very attractive Meiji period Japanese Imari kinrande bowl or pot.  It is of ogee form with a straightened and pronounced rim and has a raised foot rim.  The body is profusely decorated with patterns and ho-ho birds along with other elements.  To the inner base there is a goldfish with gilt painted seaweed.  Concentric blue circles to the base but no makers mark which is usual for these items.

It is likely it was made as a decorative item rather than for use as the gold on these pieces is soft and easily rubbed off through use.

Condition

Very good for period, especially the gilt.  Minor wear with light scratches.  Some glaze misses around the foot.  Some kiln dust to the underside base from firing.
