A Moorcroft Enamels miniature vase from 2000, hand painted on copper with stylised violet flowers and scrolling foliage in the Art Nouveau tyle, turquoise, green and yellow colours, signed with painter's initials JB, in its original presentation box.

Description

The vase is painted over a pale ground with stylised purple flowers their petals built up with fine stippled and linear detailing that gives depth. Curling green stems carry broad leaves shaded through turquoise, blue and soft yellow, the whole composition moving freely around the form. A polished gilt rim provides a clean finish at the top.

Moorcroft Enamels were produced using hand painted enamel decoration fired onto copper forms - a technique distinct from the tube lined pottery for which Moorcroft is best known. The original information card supplied with this vase describes the range as "fine hand painted enamels fired on copper", and the quality of execution here bears that out.

The base carries the Moorcroft factory mark, the ©00 date code for 2000, the Made in England wording, the WM facsimile signature, and the painter's initials JB painted above the factory mark. Modern Moorcroft Enamels pieces often bear decorators' initials; published references do not provide named attributions for enamel painters.

Supplied in its original blue Moorcroft presentation box with cream satin lining and branded information card.

Condition

Fine condition with no notable faults. The presentation box shows only light storage wear.
