Description

A 19th century pottery Moroccan bowl from the Fes region. Traditional decoration with hand painted patterns over a slip base glaze. It is of course hand thrown and it has the hole in the foot for hanging. This example dates to the third of fourth qurter of the 19th century, and while the modern examples are relatively abundant these antique originals are surprisingly scarce. The glaze has various air pops and flaws typical of firing in a relatively uncontrolled kiln.

Condition

Glaze losses and chips, some from blow-out during firing. Minor hairlines to rim, from body stresses rather than damage. Lots of glaze flaws from firing, typical of antique examples from this region.
