Description

The plate is painted in the Royal Worcester fruit tradition, with a central reserve showing ripe apples and black cherries among floral blossom - a subject Shuck handled with particular naturalism, using colour to give the fruit a convincing weight and depth. The border is cobalt blue and pink, with elaborate gilt work including raised gilt dots.

The painting is signed A. Shuck to the margin. To the reverse, the Royal Worcester mark is printed in puce with a date code for 1935, shortly before the outbreak of WWII. The pattern number W8346 is hand scripted. Albert Shuck was one of the Worcester studio painters working in the fruit tradition established by the factory in the late 19th century.

Condition

Very good for period. A couple of light scratches to the gilt around the border. A few small glaze flaws to the reverse, which have darkened slightly over time.
