Sterling Silver & Chrysocolla Large Statement Ring Gilly & John Seago (Szego) (A2065)
Description
A most interesting silver ring with large chrysocolla cabochon and decorative head. It is by Gilly & John Seago of Bury St. Edmunds. Gilly was a noted artist and her husband John was a silversmith. She designed and hand made items which were sold in their shop. John was a Hungarian refugee and Gilly was a human rights activist and artist, her most noted work being The Escalator. John's surname was Szego but anglicized it to Seago. He died in 2013 and Gilly passed in 2023.
We have read of their work previously but never come across an actual piece before now so it is great to find this item. The ring is a big bold statement with the cabochon measuring 23.85mm x 16.85mm.
The ring is in sterling silver with a London hallmark for 2004 and the JS (John Seago) sponsors mark.
