Description

A very nice quality and heavy sterling silver cigarette case. It was made for a member of the RAF and has the enamel colour stripes to the top left corner and a wings badge to the centre. The body is engine turned and it has a spring release catch. The interior features a metal spring retainer.  One side of the case has a full hallmark which is from the Birmingham assay office and dated for 1936, the other half of the case has the repeat mark.  This date is just prior to the outbreak of WWII so we wonder what this item may have witnessed over the years. 
 
The case is roughly square shaped with canted edges.  The opening is spring assisted and the hinge is in good order.  The makers mark is for William Neale & Son.  The interior of the case has a gilt wash. 
 
 
Condition

 

Some light surface scuffs and scratches as expected.  No significant knocks or dents.  Enamel in good order with light surface wear. Overall a very nice example.
