Description
A very stylish Victorian large silver photo locket on a book chain. The locket is crafted in sterling silver and features attractive decorative engraving to the front. There is a small blank cartouche ready for initials if desired. At the top of the locket is a clear Birmingham hallmark with the date letter for 1880. The locket is hinged and opens smoothly to reveal two photo reserves; the left side has its original paper lining and the right side includes a retaining ring and clear acrylic protector. The teardrop‑shaped bale carries a lion stamp for silver.
The locket connects to the book chain via a large period spring ring. The chain links have decorative cut‑out work, including cross‑type motifs, giving the piece a distinctive and eye‑catching look. The chain measures 41cm (16.1 inches). It is unmarked, as is typical for these chains, and tests as sterling silver.

Condition
Very good for period. Both locket and chain in very nice, well‑looked‑after condition. One retaining ring internally. Acrylic panel is a replacement.
