A vintage 14ct gold ring set with a natural midnight blue oval sapphire within a halo of natural opal cabochons, and having trifurcated shoulders. Birmingham hallmarked, 1980s. UK ring size J.

Description

The centre stone is an oval facet-cut natural sapphire of a deep midnight blue, approximately 6.25mm x 5mm. It sits within a close-set halo of round natural opal cabochons, each 2.5mm, which in natural light show the characteristic blueish play of colour typical of good quality white opal. The mount is well made, with trifurcated shoulders each shoulder splitting into three fine prongs as it rises to meet the setting.

Inside the band, a Birmingham assay office hallmark in the international style, consistent with 1980s production.

Sapphire is the birthstone for September.

Condition

Particularly good condition with virtually no sign of wear. Professionally cleaned and polished, ready to wear or gift. Note: the opals photograph with a warmer, more yellow tone under studio lighting - in natural light they show a blueish play of colour.
