A vintage 9ct gold ring set with five graduated natural amethysts - three oval cut at the centre, two round cut at the shoulders - in a multi claw arrangement, hallmarked Birmingham, 1980s.

Description

The five amethysts are graduated in size and cut: the three central stones are oval facet cut, the outer two round facet cut, all held in a multi claw setting that lifts each stone slightly from its neighbour and catches the light at different angles. In good light the amethysts show red flashes within the purple,  a characteristic of well saturated natural material.

Inside the band, the Birmingham Assay Office hallmark is struck in the international style, consistent with British gold jewellery of the 1980s. The maker's mark reads BMJ.

Amethyst is the birthstone for February.

Very good for period. Very little sign of wear. Professionally cleaned and polished, ready to wear or gift.
