Description

A vintage rolled gold hinged bangle, marked to the inside 1/5TH 9CT RG. The 1/5 designation indicates that 9ct gold comprises one fifth of the total weight, applied as a thick rolled gold layer over a base metal core - a construction that gives the piece good durability and a warm gold colour throughout.

The outer face is hand engraved across both halves with open daisy-like flowers with radiating petals, connected by scrolling stems and leaf forms, all framed within a rope twist border running along each edge. The decoration is cut directly into the surface and gives the bangle an attractive period look.

The bangle is hinged and fastens with a slide clasp secured by a fitted safety chain. The maker's mark is JS within a shield, the mark of Joseph Smith and Sons of Birmingham.

Condition

Very good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with age and use. The engraved decoration is clear, the hinge and clasp function correctly, and the safety chain is present.
