Description

The ring centres on an oval faceted lab-created blue spinel of strong, saturated colour. Around it sits a halo of clear spinels, the contrast between the deep blue centre and the bright surrounding stones giving the head a punchy, jewel like quality.

Lab-created spinels are chemically and physically identical to their mined counterparts and test the same under standard gemmological instruments. They are, however, free of the inclusions and growth irregularities common in natural stones, and carry none of the environmental or ethical concerns associated with mining - a consideration that matters increasingly to buyers.

One detail worth noting: the centre stone glows bright red under UV light, a fluorescence characteristic of certain synthetic spinels and a pleasing curiosity for anyone who enjoys that kind of thing.

Inside the band it carries a Birmingham assay office hallmark with date letter for 1973 and the maker's mark RJG. The head is very slightly asymmetrically set - visible on close inspection and noted in the images.

Condition

Generally good for period. One small indent to the gold shoulder strut, visible in the images. Professionally cleaned and polished and ready to wear or gift.
