Description

This pair of vintage sterling silver cufflinks was made by Asprey & Garrard in London in 1999 and designed as golfing tees.

Each cufflink has a polished silver golf tee forming the head. The tee is suspended from a short articulated chain link and terminates at the opposite end in a rounded ball back. The tee heads measure approximately 2.8 cm long and have a smooth tapered profile with a flared cup at one end.

The chain link construction allows movement between the front and back sections and makes the cufflinks easy to pass through a shirt cuff. The pair carries a full London hallmark for 1999 together with the Asprey & Garrard sponsor's mark and 925 sterling silver standard.

Asprey was founded in 1781 and developed as a London retailer of jewellery, silver, leather goods and other luxury objects. Garrard, another long established London jeweller and silversmith, came under the same ownership, with the combined company trading as Asprey & Garrard from 1998 until the two houses separated again in 2002. This pair therefore dates to that short Asprey & Garrard period.

The cufflinks retain their original fitted Asprey & Garrard presentation box, finished in the company's signature rich purple with a matching interior and Asprey & Garrard London lettering printed inside the lid.

Condition

Very good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with age and careful use. The chain links and fittings are secure.

The original Asprey & Garrard box is also in very good condition with only minor signs of storage.
