Description

The ring has a substantial, decorative setting - crossover shoulders worked in Pollack's characteristic rope detail, with trilobed prongs gripping a large cushion cabochon. The stone is a deep, opaque blue with a slightly granular surface and no visible pyrite flecking.

The deep uniform blue, opacity, and hardness are consistent with either lapis lazuli without visible pyrite - which does occur naturally, or dumortierite, a hard opaque blue stone used in cabochon jewellery of this period. Carolyn Pollack worked extensively with lapis, making that the more probable candidate.

Inside the band, the CP monogram mark and the Relios logo are both present alongside 925 for sterling silver. This example was released through QVC; a QVC hallmark is present though the date letter is not clearly legible for this item.
